Home had aged
Everything had changed. Her grey hair. His missing tooth. My sister’s wrinkles.
I went home. Home had aged. Deaths had happened. BP had exploded. Legs got fractured. Hemoglobin? Dangerously low.
I saw myself. Younger than them. There they were. Smiling, moving, working. I was sick. They took care. They were sick. They hid it. I couldn’t help.
I live away. They slip away. My loving family. An old family. Aunt, a widow. Grandmother, ninety three. An extra grandmother. Many senior citizens. Six in total. Nephew turning eight.
I love them. I miss them. They will die. Phone will ring. I will cry. Years and years.
It sucks no? Having a family? Mortal human beings.
It sucks too. Without a family. An old home. Some old bones. Smiling for me. When I arrive.
